Energy is a critical enabler of UltraTech's operations and a key lever in our decarbonisation journey. We adopt a multi-pronged approach to energy management, focusing on improving energy efficiency, increasing renewable energy adoption, and promoting circularity through alternative fuels.

Key initiatives implemented across our operations include:

• Cooler modifications through CFD analysis to reduce heat and power consumption

• Deployment of Air-Cooled Condenser (ACC) mist cooling systems to improve turbine efficiency

• Adoption of Carbon Fibre Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) fan blades to reduce energy consumption and operating costs

 

 

Our Commitments

EP100 Initiative

We are a member of EP100, a global initiative to improve energy productivity, and have achieved our target of doubling energy productivity well ahead of 2035. Operational improvements, including equipment upgrades and process optimisation, have contributed to reduced energy consumption and enhanced efficiency.


RE100 Commitment

UltraTech took its ambition to adopt sustainable energy sources a notch higher with its commitment to the Climate Group’s RE100 initiative at Climate Week NYC 2021. As part of this commitment, UltraTech targets to meet 100 per cent of its electricity requirement through renewables sources by 2050.

 

RE100, led by the Climate Group in partnership with CDP, brings together the world’s most influential businesses that are committed to 100 per cent renewable electricity. UltraTech has set a 100 per cent renewable electricity target for its entire global operations by 2050.

 

Going forward, UltraTech will be focusing on using globally emerging technologies, change in product mix and energy mix, and digitization to take energy productivity to the next level.

 

Cement manufacturing is energy intensive and associated with significant emissions. We are advancing our transition to green energy by increasing the share of renewable sources and waste heat recovery in our energy mix, recognising this as a key lever for decarbonisation. As part of our RE100 commitment, we increased renewable capacity by 36% and WHRS capacity by 18% in FY2026, achieving over 1,800 MW of green energy (including RE and WHRS). We aim to increase the overall share of green energy in its total power mix to 85% by 2030.

Case Study 1

UltraTech operationalises India's first-of-its-kind onsite hybrid RTC renewable energy project

UltraTech has operationalised a 7.5 MW round-the-clock (RTC) hybrid renewable energy project at our integrated cement manufacturing unit, Sewagram Cement Works, located in Gujarat. This innovative solution integrates solar, using bifacial modules with trackers, and wind energy alongside battery storage, co-located on-site, to provide uninterrupted energy during the cement manufacturing process without any reliance on grid power. The project was executed in collaboration with clean energy solutions company Gentari, and will deliver 7.5 MW of RTC renewable energy. Installed as a behind-the-meter system, this marks the country's first in industrial power consumption and showcases what advanced system integration can achieve in terms of emissions reduction and energy cost optimisation at scale. The project, which has been executed with the objective of providing uninterrupted clean energy, represents a new benchmark in India's clean energy transition, demonstrating the power of customer-led design and integrated system engineering.

 

Case Study 2

Inducting India's first PM E-DRIVE certified electric heavy-duty truck

UltraTech has inducted India's first PM E-DRIVE certified electric heavy-duty truck into its logistics operations. The truck was delivered by Montra Electric, the e-M&HCV business vertical of the Murugappa Group. UltraTech has been a pioneer in advancing sustainable transport in the cement sector, being among the first in India to introduce 'Green Logistics', and deployed CNG trucks in 2021, LNG trucks in 2022 and electric trucks in 2024. We continue to partner closely with our logistics providers to transition from diesel to cleaner fuels. UltraTech operates more than 664 CNG trucks, 28 LNG trucks and over 89 electric trucks across 17 manufacturing units. The induction of these electric heavy-duty trucks strengthens UltraTech's commitment to building a cleaner, more efficient and future-ready logistics ecosystem.
