UltraTech champions responsible water stewardship at scale

UltraTech champions responsible water stewardship at scale

UltraTech reaffirms its commitment on World Water Day to responsible water stewardship, through focused water management practices and effective governance systems. Recognising the significance of sustainable water utilisation within its operations and value chain, UltraTech undertakes proactive efforts for harvesting and conserving water both within its premises as well as within the communities where it operates. In FY25 alone, the Company reused, recycled, harvested and recharged over 120 million cubic metres of water.

Water security beyond the fence

Most of UltraTech’s manufacturing units undertake community‑based water conservation programmes. In addition to these programs, seven integrated manufacturing units of UltraTech also undertake community watershed projects.

By adopting a collaborative and multi-stakeholder approach, the Company has instituted numerous initiatives aimed at reducing, reusing, and recycling water. These are tailored to local conditions and needs, and include the construction of check dams, recharge structures, rainwater harvesting systems. These have helped reduce surface runoff, improve groundwater recharge and ensure year-round water availability for both agriculture and domestic use.

In FY25, UltraTech harvested and recharged 16.2 million cubic metres of water through its community interventions across its units, and contributing to improved water access, enhanced agricultural productivity and strengthened rural livelihoods in its local communities. The Company also collaborates with institutions and development partners to implement large‑scale watershed programmes, like its collaboration with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) for watershed management.

Strengthening water efficiency within units

Within its manufacturing operations, UltraTech focuses on reducing its dependency on freshwater sources and improving its water efficiency. Across many of its unit operations, UltraTech creates rainwater harvesting structures and recharge pits within plant boundaries, while exhausted mine pits are converted into reservoirs for the storage of rainwater and groundwater and aquifer recharge.

The Company also focuses on the recycling and reuse of water drawn for its operations, supported by robust water treatment systems and Zero Liquid Discharge practices at its units. In FY25, 11.09% of the total water withdrawn was treated, recycled and reused within unit operations.

Aligned with SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), UltraTech has embedded water stewardship across its operations and communities through its needs-based interventions. The Company continues to strengthen water resilience and support sustainable development across its areas of operation.
