UltraTech wins CII national award for excellence in CSR

UltraTech’s integrated cement manufacturing unit Andhra Pradesh Cement Works (APCW), has been recognised with the CII-ITC Commendation Award for Excellence in CSR for shaping a vibrant and shared future for the betterment of 17,000 people across 10 villages in Rayalseema region in the state of Andhra Pradesh.

 

The award was presented by the Hon’ble Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, Mr. Nitin Gadkari, at the 17th CII-ITC Sustainability Awards function in New Delhi on 10th May 2023.

 

This is among the most credible corporate sustainability awards in the country, uniquely based on the European Foundation for Quality Management Excellence (EFQM) framework.  The citation applauds, “APCW for having demonstrated commendable results through policy deployment and processes and for having positively impacted both business and society by taking a strategic approach to CSR through collaborative programmes with government and civil society.”

 

The award also acknowledged UltraTech’s ‘excellence’ in ‘seeking ways to be more sustainable and inclusive’ in the conduct of business. The award honoured Andhra Pradesh Cement Works unit as one of the ‘role models that inspires others to follow suit’.

 

Through sustainable CSR initiatives like employee uniform stitching, integrated watershed management project and safe drinking water projects, Andhra Pradesh Cement Works is reaching out to 10 target villages and a population of 17,000 people.

 

UltraTech undertakes its social initiatives under the aegis of The Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development with Mrs. Rajashree Birla as its Chairperson. The key focus areas are education, healthcare, sustainable livelihoods, community infrastructure and social causes. UltraTech reaches out to more than 1.6 million beneficiaries in over 500 villages in 16 states across India.
