How to Clean Cement from Tiles?

After construction work at home, cement drops and splashes on tiles are very common. If you don’t clean it quickly, it hardens and becomes difficult to remove.

But don’t worry, whether the cement is still wet or has dried completely, there is a simple way to clean it. No special tools needed; just things you already have at home.

How to Clean Cement from Tiles: Method by Method

Here are some methods for removing fresh and old cement from tiles.

METHOD 1: For Fresh / Wet Cement

If you spot the cement while it is still wet, do these steps immediately:

  • Use an old plastic card to lift off the cement gently

  • Do not use metal, as it will scratch the tile

  • Wipe the spot with a wet cloth

  • Wash with plain water and wipe dry

Tip: Use soft tools for glossy tiles. Always use plastic scrapers, soft brushes, or cloths on glossy tiles to prevent scratches and surface damage while cleaning.

METHOD 2: For Dried Grey Cement

Dried cement needs a little softening before you can clean it.

  • Pour some warm water on the cement spot and leave it for 20–30 minutes. This loosens the cement.

  • Scrub gently with an old toothbrush or rough cloth

  • If it still does not come off, mix a little vinegar with water and apply it on the spot, leave for 10 minutes, then scrub again

  • Wash with clean water and wipe dry

METHOD 3: How to Clean White Cement from Tiles

White cement leaves a white powdery mark. A little vinegar water works well here.

  • Mix one small cup of vinegar into four cups of water

  • Pour it on the white cement mark and leave it for 15–20 minutes

  • Scrub gently with a soft brush or rough sponge

  • Wipe clean and wash well

  • For very stubborn marks, get tile-cleaning liquid.

  • Always wear rubber gloves when using it.

Tip: Before applying vinegar water on the entire tile, test it on a small, hidden area to make sure the tile finish does not lose its shine.

METHOD 4:  How to Clean Dry Cement from Tiles

Old cement that has been on your surface for weeks is the toughest, but still removable.

  • First, use a wooden stick or an old plastic scraper to break off the big chunks.

  • Then get ‘cement removing liquid’, which is easily available and safe to use at home.

  • Apply it on the spot, wait as mentioned on the bottle, then scrub and wash with water.

  • Wipe the area with a wet cloth mixed with some baking soda to clean the leftover smell or residue.
