Kukurdih Cement Works, UltraTech’s integrated cement manufacturing unit in Chhattisgarh undertook a large-scale green belt plantation drive in FY26, planting over 1,35,000 saplings in its mining area and plant premises as part of the Company’s sustained commitment to responsible environmental stewardship and land management.
Within the plant premises, over 1,25,000 saplings were planted across an area of more than 62 hectares. The plantation drive focused on developing a dense and resilient green belt through a diverse species mix, including Gulmohar, Almond, Neem, Mango, and Bamboo. In the mining area, plantation activities were undertaken across 3.8 hectares, with over 9,500 saplings planted. Species such as Gulmohar, Jamun, and Neem were introduced under a structured afforestation plan, prioritising hardy and fast-growing species to strengthen biodiversity and ensure sustainable greenbelt development.
The plantation programme put special emphasis on soil preparation and conditioning, including the use of organic manure and compost to enhance soil fertility. The unit developed a multi-layered greenbelt incorporating trees, shrubs, and ground cover to improve biodiversity and reduce dust and noise. In addition, maintenance practices, such as mulching, pruning, and pest control were also regularly conducted to ensure healthy plant growth.
UltraTech’s plantation initiatives form an integral part of its broader sustainability strategy, embedding environmental responsibility within its operations and strengthening carbon sequestration capabilities, improving biodiversity and building more resilient operational landscapes.
