CSR team initiates income generating projects for rural women
UltraTech Cement has started a special project to introduce various sustainable income generating activities in the villages surrounding Vikram Cement Works unit. Under this programme, training was provided to villagers on different skills such as hand gloves-making, carpet weaving, spices manufacturing, washing powder and detergent-making, among others.
Under the project, 55 women were trained in making cotton hand gloves. These gloves were purchased by Vikram Cement Works. Every month, 7,000 pairs of these gloves are required. Till date, VCW has received purchase orders for 75,000 cotton hand gloves.
The CSR department has also started a new carpet weaving centre in association with Jaipur Rugs Foundation. Sixteen women have been engaged in this project.
A new masala mill has also been set up to provide employment for rural women. Mrs. Sangeeta Shah, Mrs. Sudesh Sahdev and other members of Rajashree Mahila Samiti inaugurated the new masala (spices) mill.
The CSR department has also launched three new products in pure masala series - Ultra jayka haldi powder, Ultra jayka mirch powder and Ultra jayka dhaniya powder.
Besides, the department has also launched Ultra shine washing powder, Ultra clean phenyl, Ultra bright dish wash, Ultra fine hand wash and Ultra mahak agarbatti. All products are manufactured by rural women and are sold directly by the VCW CSR department.
