Water Management

Water is one of the critical resources for business continuity. Keeping in line with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 - clean water and sanitation, we not only conserve water, but also consistently work towards rejuvenating resources through our 3R approach - Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. Our efforts in this direction have led us to becoming 4.17 times water positive.

Some of our cement plants are in water-stressed regions of the country. We acknowledge this as a risk for us and hence have taken concerted efforts towards mitigating it and becoming self-reliant. Many such units have championed this cause and are now ground-water independent.

Initiatives like water demand reduction, rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, water recycling, pond deepening, integrated watershed management etc., are standard operating procedures across our manufacturing units. UltraTech also builds capabilities on water and sanitation-related programmes to ensure the availability of this precious resource.

Key Achievements

Achieved water positive status of 4.17 times for all our plants.
Scored more than '1.85' under the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) programme, with World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD).
All our units are zero water discharge plants.
We continue to save water by constructing water harvesting structures and deploying water-efficient techniques.
We are working on integrated watershed management projects at Rajashree Cement Works in Karnataka in partnership with NABARD and Tadipatri Cement Plant in Andhra Pradesh in partnership with International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).
More than 11% of the water withdrawn is recycled and reused.
More than 22 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants have been set up till now across three locations which provide safe drinking water to around 30,000 villagers.
Successfully reused, recycled, harvested, and recharged more than 85+ Mn m3 of water in the FY 22-23.
Promoting water storage facilities by converting mine pits into reservoirs, construction of check dams, rainwater harvesting structures, pond de-siltation and watershed management.
